On Top of the World!

If you’re a regular reader to this blog you’ll know I’m a devotee of the classic striped Breton top and simple styles. As a general rule, I prefer to wear simple, excellent quality basics with quirky jackets, shoes and accessories. Coming into this autumn/winter season, however, I’m hankering after something a little bit different. I’ve been so inspired by this month’s Elle Magazine (and I would never give them a mention here if I didn’t mean it, go check it out!) where there are so many beautifully detailed tops worn with a slightly gothic edge. This look is here to stay; it’s featured over the last few seasons and has finally become a staple trend, one that runs and runs and never loses its appeal.

So, this autumn I’m planning on teaming dark rinse skinny jeans with over the knee suede boots and one of these gorgeous tops from Harrison. There’s a mouth-watering selection to choose from, I may be forced to purchase several…

One of the great pleasures in life is wearing clothes that make you look and feel incredibly confident and glamorous. Paige Jeans at Harrison!

Paige Adams-Geller is a legend in the denim world. As the most in-demand ‘fit model’ for some of the world’s most famous premium denim labels (Think Citizens of Humanity and Seven) she’s picked up a lot of tips about what makes the utterly perfect pair of jeans.

The ‘fit model’ is the model hired to ensure that jeans fit perfectly; so, the jeans will be tailored to the fit model’s measurements and then scaled up and down for general sale. As you can imagine, she’s learned a LOT about jeans throughout her long career; Where to place the pockets for the illusion of a perter bottom, slimmer hips and longer legs, which fabrics create the smoothest shape with the maximum comfort and which extras, like buttons and zips really make jeans feel and look amazing.

We’re delighted here at Harrison to be stocking Paige Premium Denim. They are absolute beauties! Based in LA, the brand really feels laid back, luxurious and chic. My personal favourites are the Mid Rise Kenya Sailor jeans – darkest indigo, almost a Prussian blue colour, very inky. I adore the length, I’ll wear them on holiday with flat delicate sandals and then in the winter with killer black patent pointy heels, a long length white silk shirt, a sharp blazer and a gorgeous 1920s gold and black lame scarf I picked up recently at an antiques fair.

Benetton for Holidays

Benetton is one of the all time classic European brands. They consistently produce enduring style staples, in excellent fabrics and beautiful design. They’re definitely one of my go to brands when I’m planning my holiday wardrobe. The important thing about a holiday wardrobe is to keep everything super simple. Think delicate plain vest tops, classic denim or tailored shorts, totally simple dresses, loose, fine t shirts, multi purpose flip flops and cute knits for evenings. Benetton has it all.

The other thing to consider is the dreaded baggage allowance; it’s just never enough! The way I get round this is to go with the Benetton ethos – simplicity and classic styling. Then I go absolutely wild with jewellery and accessories (which weigh so much less than lots of clothes). So, for evenings I’d pair a completely plain black dress with armfuls of gold bangles and some big statement vintage clip on gold earrings. Or a delicate white cotton sun dress with leather jewellery and great sparkly sandals.

I always find that if you over-pack your holiday wardrobe you end up totally confused about what to wear, so think of it as a capsule. If you go for things you love wearing and things that make you feel comfortable and confident you can’t go wrong. And you’ll have plenty of extra luggage allowance to bring home your holiday shopping!

Become a Masai Warrior

Masai is a label I came across a few years ago purely by accident when my mum bought one of their classic cream and gold detailed t-shirts and I ‘borrowed’ it from her. She’s never seen it since! The brand really focuses on excellent quality textiles that can stand up to heavy wear, repeated washing and ever changing trends.

Their look is classic, but slightly folky, which never goes out of style. For me, though, the real winning aspect of the Masai philosophy is how comfortable their clothes are; you really don’t know you’re wearing them. Nothing scratches, pinches or irritates, so they’re right up at the top of my summer wardrobe list!

Everyone loves a cardigan; at least, I know I love a cardigan! Especially at this time of year, when it’s supposed to be summer and we’re all supposed to be floating around with bare arms and exposed shoulders, what could be more comforting or reassuring than a classic cardi?

I especially love to have a good, solid collection of cardigans for every possible eventuality. Sweet, fine knit beaded ones to wear over silk, chunky Arran knit ones to wear over jersey and long cashmere ones to wear over jeans with a skinny patent or snakeskin belt.

Here at Harrison, we appreciate the value of a good cardigan, which is why, even at the height of this so-called ‘summer’ we have a beautiful selection of knitwear, and of course, cardigans for your approval!

Gisele modelling for Ipanema flip flops

I’ve always loved south American flip flops, a particular summer staple is Havianas, because they look as great on the beach as they do dressed up in the evening, not to mention they’re super comfortable.

However, my allegiance has been swayed this season with the new Gisele collection for Ipanema flip flops; they’re slightly more dressy, but still have that laid back south American vibe about them. We’ve got a nice collection of Gisele for Ipanema here at Harrison and I think I’ll be indulging in a few pairs to see me through what will hopefully be a long, hot summer!
