Equestrian style has slowly but surely been working its way into the fashion subconscious for some time, but it landed with a bang at Paris’ Couture week last week when John Galliano for Dior’s Couture show featured the thundering sounds of myriad hooves and models glamorously galloping down the catwalk.
The look is an almost fetishistic elegance, curves corseted and cosseted into magnificently tailored jackets and dresses, with long skirts the order of the day!
The Darling Eliza jacket from Harrison perfectly takes in the best elements of the trend; nipped in waist, cosseted shape, nice crisp colours and print and just perfect with a long black skirt and a top hat with a veil!
Red Carpet season is upon us and thank goodness! We could all be doing with a little fashion pick me up this time of year and that’s why I adore Hollywood’s award season, starting with the Golden Globes then bursting into crescendo with The Oscars and the SAG awards. To be honest I’m never really bothered about who wins awards, I’m more concerned about their red carpet credentials, so in honour of those who walked fashion’s fault line at the Golden Globe Awards on Sunday, here’s my pick of the winners and losers!
Christina Hendricks looking very va va voom in her Christian Sirano pale apricot origami gown. The colours of her skin, hair and dress combine beautifully here. WINNER!
Carey Mulligan looking sweet but almost too twee in her black gown. Much more impact would have been created with slightly avant guarde jewellery and make-up. LOSER
Cameron Diaz dressed by the infamous Rachel Zoe. Personally i think this is a rare fail for Cameron, it's too harsh and the dress almost looks cheap. LOSER
Jennifer Aniston in a simple black gown. Again. LOSER
Is it just me or is Halle Berry the most consistently dull person in Hollywood? LOSER
Kate Hudson looks fresh and fun in this dress. I would say, however, that it would have been more chic and less bridal if she'd chosen a blish pink colour rather that the white. WINNER
Calista Flockheart looks like a little girl in this dress. Perhaps if she had worn something cut to flatter her petit figure it would have been more forgiving. LOSER
Drew Barrymore looking understated and sophisticated. Hair could have been slightly more frivolous though. WINNER
Nicole Kidman looking awful in Nina Ricci. Perhaps if it had been a richer colour it woud have worked but as it is it clashes with her skin and makes her look badly put together. LOSER
Christina Augilera looking spectacular. Could have been doing with some more jewellery though. WINNER
Leona Lewis badly needs a new stylist. Everything about this is wrong, from the hair down. LOSER
Penelope Cruz blows away the competition in this vintage Armani number. Notice how fabulously her hair and make-up compliment the gown. WINNER
Sandra Bullock does have a touch of the Quality Street about her here, but with the relaxed hair and laid-back jewellery she makes it work. WINNER
Kate Winslet in Yves Sait Laurent looking like a goddess. Chic, simple, elegant and flattering. WINNER
I love Emily Blunt, she always looks so bright and fresh. This Dolce and Gabbana gown perfectly flatters and is completely age appropriate. WINNER
Maggie Gyllenhall utterly chic and understated in Roland Mouret. Three cheers! WINNER
Saving the best for last. Marion Cotillard looks spectacular in this Dior creation. Perfection. WINNER
The wind is still blowing icy cold so get warm and chic with Bennetton’s wildly chic puffa jacket, similar to those seen on such A List luminaries as Angelina Jolie and Hayden Panitierre…get it while it lasts, and, even better, its in the sale! Hurrah!
Amazing!
Angelina braving the New York weather in her puffa!
Happy New Year everyone, I hope you had a fabulously fashionable festive season and are ready to dive headlong into a new decade and a new season of gorgeous stylish goodies from Harrison.
We have two new brands joining us here at Harrison Towers; Noa Noa who make the most covetable, chic, cosy and stylish clothes I’ve seen for eons. Very vintage looking, the styles can be mixed to give you a Bloomsbury look, some Flapper flavour, some 1930 glam or simply your own look with a new twist. You’ll have to wait until later this week until we unveil the whole collection, but trust me, it will all be worth it!
Jin Ja are also new kids on the Harrison block. Their sophisticated collections will, like the finest of wines, simply get better and better the more you wear them. Classic, elegant shapes in luxurious fabrics are the very building blocks of any wardrobe and Jin Ja deliver them in heaps! Their cost-per-wear value alone will be enough to tempt you!
Also, some frivolous Wednesday afternoon fun for you all; I watched this on BBC iPlayer last night and I can highly recommend it, it’s hilarious and the clothes are to die.
Enjoy!
So, until later this week…the anticipation is killing me!
